Our History

Lockwood's Ranch History

Originally settled in the 1800’s, Lockwood’s Ranch was home to a miner who lived in a one room cabin. Mr. Lockwood mined the local area and Lockwood Valley was named for him. Local museum records show that Lockwood’s Ranch was homesteaded in the early 1920’s by the Brown family from Pasadena, CA. In the 1930’s Dalton Trumbo purchased the Ranch. Trumbo was well known as an American screenwriter and novelist who scripted films including Roman Holiday, Exodus, Sparticus and Thirty Seconds over Tokyo. During the late 1930s and early 1940s, Trumbo became one of Hollywood’s highest-paid screenwriters.

This ranch is amazing! It's very comfortable for big families. We had our 2nd annual winter getaway here with our grown sons, wives & 6 grandchildren. The gourmet kitchen is beautiful, and big enough to make big fancy meals. I love be the extra fireplaces in the dining room and bedrooms. It's rare to have a place where kids can run around in big open spaces. Tiffany was so sweet and patient in letting the them feed the animals. The baby goat and the pigs were adorable. We had fresh eggs for our breakfast. The kids loved riding the tractor. We look forward to coming back again. Thank you!

I stayed here with my wife and 7 kids and had a magnificent time. They did a fantastic job of incorporating luxury with a real ranch house and surrounding acreage. I grew up on a cattle ranch and it was nice to be there again, although I didn't have to do my chores like I did growing up -LOL! We are planning a family reunion soon. This place will bless many to come as a serene place to check out for a few days and be present to family and friends. Be sure to wake up early and sit on the back porch above the lake to watch the sunrise. It's gorgeous!

Words cannot express what a magical time we had while staying at the Lockwood Ranch. It brought back so many great memories for me growing up on my Grandmothers ranch in Oxnard CA. The grounds are beautiful, the animals keep you smiling and the staff are all very helpful and accommodating. This is a wonderful place for families, weekend getaways and retreats. I cannot wait to go back and enjoy the meditation area right above the lake. Simply Divine.
